Investment policy statement template you and your AI can use
A POLICY.md holds the ranges from an investment policy statement in a file an AI agent can read and Allocait can check.
What an investment policy statement is
An investment policy statement, or IPS, is a written set of rules for a portfolio: what it holds, how much of each kind of holding is acceptable, and what you do when a rule is broken. Advisors write one with a client, and you can write your own.
Written before the market moves, it turns a later decision into a check against rules you already set.
A template with every number blank
Copy this, then fill each blank with your own number. Leave a line out when you have no number for it.

A POLICY.md holds the numbers from your statement in a form a computer can check: a short block of rules between two --- lines, then free text for your reasons. Allocait reads only the block. It shows what would change and applies nothing until you say so.

# Anything you like
Prose for you and your agent. Allocait ignores everything below the frontmatter.- min and max: the allocation band for a class, as a percent of the portfolio.
- target: optional, and between min and max.
- position_size: optional, the range one holding in the class may take, as a percent of the portfolio.
- short_position_size: optional, the same for a short holding.
- Below the second --- line: anything you like. Allocait ignores it.
- Read the full format: every key and rule.
- Six classes: a fictional example with position size ranges.
- A converted advisor statement: a fictional example of ranges taken from prose.
Draft it with your AI
Copy a prompt into your own AI assistant. Each one tells it to use only your numbers.
Help me write my policy
Answer a few plain questions, one at a time, and get a finished POLICY.md back.
Convert my advisor's investment policy statement
Paste the document and get the file back, with everything else kept as notes.
Turn my notes or spreadsheet into a policy
Paste rough notes or a spreadsheet dump, and each line becomes a class with its range.
Check my policy
Paste a draft, and the AI checks it against the format and flags gaps without touching a number.
With Allocait connected, your agent can show what a file would change before anything is saved.
Where Allocait fits
Allocait checks a portfolio against the rules in your file. It reports each class and position as in range, below its minimum or above its maximum, and it can check a proposed change before you make it.
It places no trade and connects to no brokerage. You decide what to do with each result.
- How rebalancing bands work: a minimum and maximum for each asset class.
- Add a pre-trade check to an agent: ask your rules before an order is placed.
- Size one position from a stop: the free calculator runs in your browser.
